I can be classified as an artist/naturalist or an environmental artist.

I begin my paintings by going into the wilderness. I select a rock or tree for its compelling texture and energy. I wrap canvas around the rock or tree, apply paint to the canvas and, by rubbing, transfer the image of the surface texture onto the canvas. This image provides the sketch for my painting, which I complete in my studio.

My paintings reflect the partnership between myself and the Earth. They are my way of cooperating with nature, honoring its feminine essence, and sharing it with others.

I received a Bachelor’s degree in Art from Brown University in 1980. While at Brown, I took classes at the Rhode Island School of Design, and spent a semester in Temple University’s Tyler College of Art Abroad Program in Rome, Italy.
